University of Connecticut Engineering Science Building

 

Gale was retained to provide building enclosure commissioning services for the new Engineering and Science Building at the University of Connecticut. Our services included:

 

  • Provided peer review of 90% construction drawings and specifications relating to building enclosure systems including roofing, exterior windows/wall assemblies, waterproofing, flashings, air and thermal barriers, and compatibility of materials
  • Assistance with development of the commissioning plan/specifications pertaining to building enclosure systems
  • Assistance with testing criteria, and reporting duties of the contractors, construction manager, and owner
  • Reviewed building enclosure shop drawings and on-site mock-ups
  • Monitored installation of waterproofing systems, air and vapor barriers, membrane and metal flashings, terra cotta rain screen, curtainwalls, and vegetative roofing system
  • Provided field reports for each visit including written and photographic documentation of observations and deviations from contract documents and approved shop drawings; suggested resolutions to Architect of Record
  • Provided continually updated cumulative tracking log of deficiencies and open action items; informed project team of items noted during each site visit
  • Participation in periodic pre-installation, progress, and construction meetings to address issues relating to exterior enclosure assemblies
