Field One Synthetic Turf Project
Seekonk, MA

Expanded Parking Lot
Gale was hired to convert an existing natural grass soccer field into a synthetic turf field with athletic lighting and a new scoreboard. This field is the first in New England and second in the United States to install the “Safeshell” infill system, which consists of sand and crushed walnut shells. The project also included renovation of the existing parking lot and a new spectator seating area. Our services included:
- Existing conditions evaluation and survey of site
- Schematic and final designs including drawings for field layouts, expanded parking lot, and athletic lighting
- Permitting assistance consisting of a Notice of Intent Report and acquiring local planning and zoning permits
- Bid and award process assistance
- Construction phase services including submittal and shop drawing review, and weekly site visits to assess progress and general compliance with contract requirements
The project included a custom purple turf boarder to reflect school colors and promote imaging and branding. Gale utilized a modular block wall system to create a spectator platform with creative fencing solutions for enhanced viewing.
Because of the innovative nature of the safeshell system, the project was picked up by several news outlets, click here to see it highlighted on Boston 25 News. Gale was also invited by USGreenTech to speak at their official Synthetic Turf Showcase at the Wheeler School. Senior Project Manager, John M. Perry, P.E. presented a case study about Gale’s contributions to the project.
