St. Charles High School

Building Enclosure Design and Construction Period Services
Waldorf, MD

This project included construction of a new 285,000 square foot, 4-story high school, designed to serve as a model for environmental study, research, and conservation. The building features a super-insulated building enclosure, geothermal heating and cooling, reflective and cool-roof systems, and previous paving. It also houses a 150-seat, multi-use domed theater.

Gale was initially retained to provide building enclosure design assistance including preparation of outline technical specifications and details, and review of technical specifications and drawings prepared by the architect. During the construction phase, we provided construction administration services including review of shop drawings and submittals, attendance at pre-installation and progress meetings, and ongoing consultation. We were also retained by Charles County Public Schools to provide building enclosure related construction monitoring services.

This project was awarded Engineering News-Record MidAtlantic’s 2015 Best Project award in the K-12 Education category.
